Germany’s DEIMOS’ DAWN “Anthem Of The Lost” is a masterpiece hybrid of Thrash, Death and Groove Metal.
We could sit here all day picking apart the genre, Modern Thrash, Melodic Death, it’s heavy and fast of course, but it’s put together so exceptionally well. The band is amazing, they just nail it on every song, super tight in the pocket.
Marc Grewe (ex-Morgoth, Insidious Disease) is behind the mic. He’s known for his Death Metal voice but here’s he’s closer to an aggressive Thrash voice. And I mean AGGRESSIVE, he’s not holding back, but he’s also making more use of what I would call “melody”. The songs in general have more hooks than Death Metal. I’m not saying one style is better than the other, it is what it is.
Sodom guitarist Andy Brings had a hand in the vocal production and writing lyrics. Corny Rambadt was the producer who made it really sound brilliant. I can hear some “Sodom” in the mix as far as the gang vocals and hooks go.
Overall, I love this album, I don’t care if you’re into Thrash, Death or any other aggressive styles, you’ll enjoy this album. From top to bottom it has German engineering and perfection behind it, they left no stone unturned to make a killer album.
As far as rating this album, it’s hard to judge it by Thrash or Death Metal albums as it’s a hybrid of the two, they’ve almost created a new genre of sorts, unless there’s other bands doing something like this I don’t know about. I’m going to give this a 8 out of 10 “Flaming Fists”. Production, writing, musicianship are all amazing. I’m just leaving them a little space to see where they take this sound. As far as my pure enjoyment, I would rate it even higher, I really like what they’re doing here, it’s uniting two different genres that are close cousins, but still have their own fan base, perhaps this can bridge the gap even closer.

BAND BIO:
When Germany’s flagship-growler Marc Grewe (ex-Morgoth, Insidious Disease) gets ready to step behind a microphone, you can be sure to be bombarded with pure Death Metal … until now! Because with Deimos’ Dawn the scene veteran stands for the first time in front of a THRASH METAL band of pure and classical coinage and puts the inclined fan these days the first album “Anthem Of The Lost” in the shelves! Bands like Kreator, Slayer, Sodom and Sepultura have obviously left deep marks on the band’s founders Andy Doé (guitar), Matthias Lange (bass) and Mathias Schmidt (drums), so that the three men in their mid-forties, who have known each other since early childhood, didn’t have to spend a long time looking for ideas when they launched Deimos Dawn in 2017 and soon recruited the perfect frontman in Marc.
12 songs, on which Grewe with the full vocal range of his skills and the most diverse vocal performance of his career puts the black-golden crown of a poison and bile-spewing king of the underworld, are waiting to blow a fresh wind of devastation through your brain. The band’s great joy in playing makes it unmistakably clear that Deimos’ Dawn are something special. So special, in fact, that former Sodom guitarist and jack-of-all-trades Andy Brings had to write (nearly) all lyrics and produce Grewe’s vocals out of sheer enthusiasm for the concept and songs. Yes, had to!
In order not to let anything go wrong with the overall sound, Deimos’ Dawn went into the experienced hands of Corny Rambadt (Sodom, Disbelief, Darkness). With “Anthem Of The Lost” Deimos’ Dawn undoubtedly write a new, strong chapter in the big book of Thrash Metal!
