PARALANDRA are one of those bands that any rock fan can appreciate. They’ve got enough of a modern sound to fit into today’s scene, but their obvious love of 80’s and Classic Rock shines through as well. They’re in the mold of Halestorm, except from what I’ve heard, Cassandra Carson has a more dynamic voice than Lizzy Hale (yeah, I said it). Carson has more power and passion for sure, and I found “The Body Electric” to be musically stronger than most of the modern rock I’ve heard too.
So why havn’t they broken out big yet? Who knows, perhaps being from Springfield, Missouri has hampered their exposure to some degree, maybe they don’t want to play all the games of the major labels. I do know this, they’ve proven you don’t need a major label to put out solid music.
Guitarist Paul Carson is a force as well, great tones, killer solos and an overall powerful presence. The band as a whole plays as one unit, super tight and I have no doubt they crush it live too. The songwriting and construction of songs is perfect for radio, they don’t mess around and get to the big hooks and keep you listening.
The first single “Look At Me Now” is a powerhouse track. It’s not ground-breaking original, but that’s what I appreciate about them, they rock hard and do it very well, they’re not reinventing the wheel, just keeping it on the road.
Even though I’m not a ballad guy, I can recognize a good one and “Love Of My Life” is just a gorgeous production. The problem is there’s nowhere to put it on radio right now as it’s too much of a Classic Rock throwback, which is a terrible shame. Thankfully people can still discover this online and hopefully at their shows.
There’s plenty of great tunes here, in fact the last cut “Resurrexit” is as strong as anything else on the album. “Savannah” is perhaps the most unique track that serves as a ballad of sorts, but it’s very powerful and heavy too.
“The Body Electric” is just a GREAT Rock album on any level, I would consider it a great bridge between the past and present. Hopefully they can reach the heights they deserve, this is an amazing band on all levels.
