MILLENNIAL REIGN have released their first full-length album with new singer Tiffany Galchutt, who joined the band for their 2021 EP “Carry The Fire Again”. Not only is this an amazing piece of Christian Metal, it’s also one of the better Power Metal albums I’ve heard lately as it overpowers much of the stuff coming out of Europe.
Since 2012 guitarist and founding member Dave Harvey has been putting out solid material that certainly has Christian overtones, but avoids being a “hammer over the head” so to speak, in other words it doesn’t sound forced and too much like worship music. Having said that, the theology in the songs seems to be very solid, it just doesn’t come off as “cheesy” and has a more universal sound.
If you are for some reason turned off by the content of the songs I feel bad for you, this is truly a magnificent piece of Power Metal. Galchutt’s vocals are amazing, she has great range and power but doesn’t overdo it. She’s singing as a Metal/Rock vocalist, not like an Opera singer. She has a bold delivery and helps “bring the songs to life” (a little nod to the first single “Bring Me To Life”)
“EPIC” would be the first word that comes to mind when I hear the songs. The use of keyboards, backing vocals and the massive production all make “World On Fire” a superb quality album. They album is released by Ulterium Records in Sweden who specialize in Power Metal with a more positive angle to the music. But this competes easily with labels like Frontiers and AFM as well.
Best songs? Well, there isn’t a weak track on this album. I will say that “Wandering” is more unique and Progressive than some others. “Crack The Eastern Sky” was very powerful too and the cover of Triumph’s “Allied Forces” was spectacular. But overall I was literally not disappointed with any track. There’s no “ballads” (fine by me) but there is plenty of melody, harmony and hooks. As I’ve listened through the album several times I keep hearing new things and finding new favorite, it’s just one of those true “albums” that will remain timeless.
At the end of the day, this is one of the best Power Metal albums I’ve heard lately and EASILY one of the best Christian-based Metal albums I’ve heard in a long time it’s up there with Narnia and Stryper for sure and hopefully there’s much more coming from Millennial Reign until we see the crack of the Eastern sky.
