I was getting the MOLLY KARLOFF songs sent one at a time when they put out singles, “You Don’t Know My Name”, “Higher Than The Son” and the title track to their album “Breaking Out”. With each song I became more and more intrigued by this band who would probably fall under Modern Rock, but they seem to have an appreciation for the decades of Hard Rock that came before them.
Grammy award-winning producer, Mike Exeter worked on the album so the quality is not in question. When you add that to the song-writing of what appear to be three guys with varied influences who write solid songs, you’ve got a force to be reckoned with. MOLLY KARLOFF are “heavy”, but more in the style of Black Sabbath heavy. Musically they write killer melodic hooks, but they play hard and heavy with tons of emotion.
There are traces of Metal and even Glam in what they do. You could argue that being to diverse will please nobody, but I argue that any fan of heavy music will find them very appealing. They’re lyrically strong too avoiding the rock cliché’s but at the same time having a somewhat familiar sound.
Besides the three strong singles, “Automatic”, “In The Night” and “Ain’t Gonna Dance” were other other highlights. There’s a good flow to the album, no boring mid-tempo ballads or long drug out intros, they generally get down to business and make it worth going through the whole album.
To this point I havn’t made any comparisons to other bands, mostly because nothing jumps out of me. They’re Modern Hard Rock with their own twist. They do it very well, they’re accomplished musicians and the album’s production is great, what’s not to love? Go get it!!

Packing a hefty punch with killer riffs, an infectious hook, and boundless groove, MOLLY KARLOFF’s new single, Breaking Out, is a trademark track for the band. The guys remark about the motivation behind the single: “Breaking out of your scene, your lifestyle, your thankless job, or whatever it may be for you. Breaking out of taboos, breaking out of convention. The best way to break through is to groove, and as we like to do, this track carries it all, with a cheeky wink and a smile while you groove out in your new lifestyle!”
Other singles from their debut album Higher Than The Sun, and You Don’t Know My Name , are already firm fan favourites. Both tracks have amassed impressive video views and a flood of radio airplay both nationally and internationally. To date, MOLLY KARLOFF have earned many favourable plaudits; the band have previously been featured as Planet Rock’s track of the week and have been included on their main playlist. The trio racked up widespread acclaim for all of their previous releases with Powerplay Magazine, Fireworks Magazine, Hard Rock Hell Magazine, and others all greatly praising their work, and responses to the band’s new album, Breaking Out, will raise the bar even further. The record has been recorded with renowned Grammy award-winning producer, Mike Exeter (Black Sabbath, Tony Iommi, Judas Priest, Cradle of Filth, Those Damn Crows, Massive Wagons) at the helm, and it’s a deeply absorbing piece of work that any hard rock fan will consume whole-heartedly. It’s an album stacked with huge refrains, gigantic riffery, and compelling groove.
In addition to strong reviews for their recorded work, MOLLY KARLOFF consistently stun audiences with their high energy live performances. The Oxford-based three-piece have a raft of live shows planned for the remainder of the year, and with the release of the band’s debut album, nothing can stop MOLLY KARLOFF.
