THE EROTICS return with another full-length album of sleazy, Metal-Infused, Punked up amplified Rock N’ Roll. If my calculations are correct this is their 10th album since around 1997. Mike Trash has lead his crew through the mire and the muck of underground rock where the REAL stuff still exists.
For those are already fans, I can tell you they’re right on point with their sound that somehow perfectly blends the 70’s punk and 80’s Glam. NOT an easy task as the two camps didn’t really get along back in the day, but THE EROTICS bring everyone together with songs that have great hooks, but are also perfectly imperfect.
They sound like a B-Horror movie soundtrack, offensive at times with campy song-titles like “Let The Dead Times Roll” and “Bon Amputee”. Tramp seems to have a dark sense of humor in the vein of Alice Cooper and W.A.S.P., but you’re not always sure when THE EROTICS are joking, which is what keeps you interested.
This album is a little more diverse than some of their others, most of the album is still strait up rockers like “She Loves Her Dynamite”, “Guns At Sundown” and “The Way You Look At Me”, but there’s some softer moments like “So Many Wasted Days”. On the flip side of that is “Whiskey Cadaver” where Trash shows he COULD do more Thrash/Death vocals if he cared to do so, he layers them over a heavy Rockabilly track that is simply delicious.
The production is similar to the last few albums, it almost sounds like it was recorded as a full band and has a bit of a “live” feel to it. Part of me would love to hear the band with a massive budget, but that wouldn’t really be THE EROTICS, I would hate for them to get watered down.
When you first listen you know it’s not a major label release but after a couple tunes you begin to really embrace the fact that this is REAL FREAKIN’ BAND who are slugging away in a rehearsal room somewhere. To be honest, in a world that’s quickly moving to A.I. and full no deception, albums like this are going to mean more to us measly humans than ever before.
