It’s been twenty years since I first heard The CHUCK NORRIS EXPERIMENT (named after the blues artist not the martial art dude). Needless to say I’ve been a fan ever since and anyone who claims to like Rock, Punk or Metal will discover that these guys destroy all genres. You simply can’t put them in one category, but yet they get thrown into many of them.
Their latest, simply called “20” could be their most diverse album yet. Some fans cringe at the term “diverse”, but don’t worry, after 20 years they’ve evolved to some degree but the energy and high-octane delivery is still firmly intact.
So what am I hearing that makes me call this one more diverse? The opening track “The Knife” actually has a long and mellow guitar intro that you don’t hear them do often. When it kicks in you realized this song (and album) are rooted a little more into the Arena Rock and NWOBHM, the sound is slightly cleaner and the songs more epic. “The Knife” has some slight traces of 80’s Glam Metal with backing vocals that sound a bit like that on an early Def Leppard album.
If you’re afraid they’ve lost their edge, far from it. “You Go Boom!” if a powerhouse track that’s going to be an ass-kicker live. It’s back to their earlier sound and the Scandinavian rock movement of the late 90’s and early 2000’s they were part of with other bands like Glucifer, Hellacopters, Turbonegro and others.
I’m skipping ahead to track 4 because it just makes me so happy, which makes me wonder about my life choices since the song is named “Jason Vorhees”. I am totally brought back to 80’s Alice Cooper with this one. Not just because of his song “He’s Back (The Man Behind the Mask)” (it doesn’t sound like that song at all), but more because of the nostalgia and the strait-forward rock radio delivery of the song. C.N.E. has always been rooted in B-Movie horror and this is a great addition to the library.
Another note-worthy track is “Surprise (And Everybody Dies)”. It has a similar structure to “The Knife” with its pace and build up to a powerhouse chorus. Frontman Chuck Ransom’s energy and emotion help this song absolutely crush.
For the fans who lean more into the Punk/Hardcore side of the band “Deadshot” is right no point. It’s fast, furious, angry and catchy all at the same time. It’s hard to have all that packed into one song but C.N.E. has been writing like this for 20 years.
“Prime Mover”, “Hot Damn”, “Life If Hypercolor” and “Out Of Your League” are strait up rockers that have helped define their sound. As I mentioned earlier, they lean more into strait up Rock than some of the previous work, but it’s still C.N.E., and to be honest this is not a drastic enough of a departure to even have a long conversation about, some may not even notice.
As a whole, this album is high energy, angst-ridden and FUN. C.N.E. has something to say, but they also know how to party and don’t take themselves too seriously. The band right now is super-tight, Chuck Ransom is on fire with the vocals, and the production is superb. It’s 11 tracks of Rock N’ Roll mayhem and for that I have to give them 8.5 out of 10 “Flaming Fists”.
THANK you to THE CHUCK NORRIS EXPERIMENT for their continued dedication to heavy Rock as they continue to do what they do despite the current trends out there.

THE CHUCK NORRIS EXPERIMENT BIOGRAPHY
The Swedish rock monster CHUCK NORRIS EXPERIMENT is celebrating 20 years with their brand-new studio album “20” that will be released in July 2024, by Ghost Highway Recordings (ES) and Savage Magic Records (US). Most of 2023 was spent writing the new album, and now the band is ready to hit the road on their “20-year anniversary world tour 2024”.
The songs are leaning more towards classic hard rock than the bands previous albums, and tracks like “Hot Damn” & “The Knife” will open up a new line for the Chuckies on the rock’n’roll highway. Hold fast, hold tight… The Chuck Norris Experiment are back!
CHUCK NORRIS EXPERIMENT has spent a lot of time on the European and American roads headlining tours and blowing festivals the last few years and have shared stage with a bunch of great bands like Supersuckers, Turbonegro, Peter Pan Speedrock, Mondo Generator, Massendefekt, Exploited, V8 Wankers, Electric Eel Shock, Adam West, Hard-Ons, Dozer, Meteors, Trail Of Dead, Bombshell Rocks and many more.
The dates and venues for 2024/2025 are being set right now, so if you are one lucky cat, they just might rock out somewhere near your hometown.
CHUCK NORRIS EXPERIMENT has left a trail of CD´s, LP´s, singles, comps & tributes behind them during the years and they shared vinyl or CD -space with bands like Hellacopters, Sator, Nomads, Backyard Babies, Electric Frankenstein, Mad Sin, Bones, V8 Wankers, Twisted Sister, Mondo Generator, Danko Jones etc. Most of those releases are long gone, but the band promises to keep on releasing singles and album like there is no tomorrow.
The band name CHUCK NORRIS EXPERIMENT is often believed to been taken after the US martial arts champion Chuck Norris. But as all true believers and lovers of Rock’n’roll know, the band name is a tribute to the legendary American blues guitarist Charles “Chuck” Norris, who recorded the classic live album “Los Angeles Flash” in the band’s hometown Gothenburg on June 25, 1980.
