Aussie Rockers SHOTGUN MISTRESS return with “Kings Of The Revolution” and continue with their straight up rock n’ roll attack. The band is firmly based in the 70’s and 80’s style rock with enough modern elements to keep it sounding fresh for a new generation.
Following a long tradition of killer Rock from Down Under, SHOTGUN MISTRESS delivers the goods with down and dirty style that will have a broad fan base. I think of how AIRBOURNE broke through by playing high-energy rock and killer live shows, they refused to be ignored, and I think the same for these guys.
Musically SHOTGUN MISTRESS is closer to the Aerosmith camp than AC/DC, but they bring it with both barrels loaded. The band is super-tight and obviously students of rock n’ roll. They havn’t reinvented the wheel, but they’ve kept it rolling and have avoided the potholes so far.
From the opener title track “Kings Of The Revolution” to the 11th “Down” they offer up some excellent tracks loaded with plenty of groove and hooks. The only time they really slow down is for the surprising “Welcome To The Fight”, where they show a surprisingly effective softer side.
“Shot Down”, “From Hell”, “Headspace”, “Addicted To Pain” and the Bostonesque “It’s Alright” are all killer cuts. “Mary Jane” was decent too but as a radio cut it took a little bit to get to the point, the payoff was fine but it was the one song I was a little disappointed with.
Overall this is a GREAT Rock record that SHOULD put them on another level. They’re doing this as good as anyone else out there right now. For those who really think “Rock Is Dead” they’re simply not looking in the right places, how about trying Down Under with SHOTGUN MISTRESS.
