The number of bands that have gone to a more Classic 80’s AOR sound in the past decades has exploded. Having grown up in that era I’m a bit surprised and very pleased. I never thought bands like Sweden’s NESTOR could succeed with a sound that brings band bands like Survivor, Toto, Kanas (the 80’s) and other Melodic rock of that nature.
I could ponder on that for days, but perhaps people are just ready for something lighter and “happier” to get them through the day. NESTOR could be exactly what you’re looking for if that sounds like you. When you hear those old Chicago ballads, Richard Marx or Lou Gramm, it does bring you to a time when things were a little simpler and black and white.
NESTOR captures that era of music when keyboards were dominant in the songs and love was in the air. Swedish bands have always had a flare for Melody and Power Pop. From ABBA to Europe, Roxette, Ace Of Base and many others, Sweden has been the world leaders in big hooks and Pop Rock. NESTOR are certainly looking to the past success of their countrymen as they move forward.
There seems to be interest in this sound, but has the band separated themselves enough and has enough time gone by for them to be successful? I will say that IF you take this route you better be amazing musicians and do the genre the right way and NESTOR have both of those nailed down.
