METALLICA has released an official video from ‘If Darkness Had A Son’ from their new album “72 Seasons” out April 14th. It’s the follow up single to ‘Lux Aeterna’.
I remember the first time I heard ‘Master Of Puppets’, the long-haired dude at a local music store “Mother’s Records” was playing it when I walked in to check out the latest new releases. I got this feeling of excitement deep in the pit of my gut. Decades later when I heard the drums kick in and the first guitars I had a similar feeling of anticipation. It’s one I have not had for any Metallica song since ‘Master Of Puppets’.
So, did the rest of the song live up to the expectations. I would say it’s very close. I’m obviously not a teenager anymore, but hearing a great Metal song still has the same effect. I’m very skeptical of new material from bands I grew up listening too as well, I’m probably hyper-critical and quite often let down. ‘If Darkness Had A Son’ had NOT let me down.
While it’s probably more along the lines of something from the “Black” album, such as ‘Sad But True”, it still has the overall feeling of earlier Metallica. “Hardwired… to Self-Destruct” in my opinion was actually a solid album, and this surpasses anything I heard on that album.
‘Lux Aeterna’ was a good start, this track is even more promising.
