Finally we get to hear the new Judas Priest song “Panic Attack” and there’s a lot to take in. The opening keyboards and drums sounded like an 80’s Prog band or something like that. It was cool but unexpected to say the least. When the guitars kicked in more they had a surprising cleaner tone than their previous album “Firepower” or even anything they’ve done in a long time. I could almost a sense of “Turbo” in the track.
As the song advances I hear a song that in the vein of the “Painkiller” or even “Ram It Down” era. One thing for sure, Halford still sounds amazing, even if he’s only pulling this off in the studio I don’t care, he sounds like he can make music for awhile yet, which is GREAT news.
Overall I really like the song, it’s closer to the European Power Metal sound than before, which ironically, they were the main influence of. Funny how that comes back around. You could argue this song is a great example of decades of Priest starting with “Turbo” and moving forward.
