We are VERY excited about this band out of the Netherlands, THE DAMNED FEW. Very exciting and fresh sound but still keeping a true Hard Rock spirit. You can hear their new track and contact information at the end of the interview.
RYR: HELLO! Thanks for taking the time to chat, I’m extremly excited about the sound of THE DAMNED FEW, I love everything about the new single ‘Til’ Death Do Us Part’. So let’s start out with an introduction and history of the band for those who may not be familiar with the band, tell us all about THE DAMNED FEW…
TDF: The Damned Few is a 4-piece rock n roll band hailing from Overijssel, The Netherlands. We formed a few years ago and are about to release our debut Album hopefully at the end of this year!
RYR: I literally can’t stop listening to ‘Til’ Death Do Us Part’, I’m having trouble getting my other listening duties done lol! There’s so many different layers to the song, it’s Heavy Rock, it’s sounds very “analog”, there’s literally elements of Classic Rock, Metal, Punk, Psychedelic all wrapped into a blusey modern sound. Can you tell us about the writing and recording process for this track?
TDF: Thank a lot. That is a very big compliment for us. Most of our songs we write in our own rehearsal space at ‘Dieksie Resort & Studio’s’. Normally it starts with a riff or a meldody and from their we start working with the whole band. It might be bit time consuming this way but it works great for us. We recorder Til Death Do Us Part at GieSound Studios in Zwolle. We worked with Guido Aalbers for the first time who worked and still works with many great artist.
RYR: Now the question, is this song going to be part of an album or EP, what are the plans?
TDF: Haha, yes! This song is going to be on our debut album. We recorded half of the songs by know and we can hopefully release it by the end of the year.
RYR: Dion’s vocals… wow, very powerful. Can you tell me what she grew up listening too and what are some of the influences behind her voice (if Dion is answering this I’ll change the wording of the question thanks!)
TDF: Dion listened a lot to bands like Nirvana, Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Alice in Chain. You can hear these influences still in her singing.
RYR: I’ve watched other videos and songs from you online and THE DAMNED FEW seems to be a very diverse band from slowerly bluesier tracks to the heavier stuff like the new single. Where is the bands comfort zone, are you letting the scene direct you or do you just do what feels right for the band?
TDF: Our comfort zone is pretty broad. Ofcourse we love to play the heavy stuff live because these songs are easier to dance to but we get good reactions on the more laid back stuff as well. It depends on the mood I guess. We like to be diverse.
RYR: One of my favorite bands is another band from the Netherlands, PETER PAN SPEEDROCK. I can sense a similar attitude of rock in THE DAMNED FEW, is there a strong rock scene there?
TDF: YES, we love Peter Pan Speedrock as well! I cannot say that PPSR is a direct influence to our music since it is a lot faster then what we make but we all grew op listening to them so I guess it is in our system anyway. Peter from PPSR by the way formed 2 other bands in the past few years: Fire Horse and TankZilla. I would recommend both bands, really cool music!
RYR: I almost hate bringing up the pandemic but it’s so fresh in our minds. Being in performing band the last few years was extremely hard, how did the band survive through this time?
TDF: The Pandemic was terrible for us. The lockdown is the reason that there is such a big gap between our lost EP and Til Death Do Us Part. During the lockdown we wrote some songs but most of the time we couldn’t do anything. It was quite depressing actually.
RYR: Let’s talk about playing live. Have you done some bigger shows and festivals? What are the plans going forward into 2023?
TDF: In the past year we did some pretty awesome shows in The Netherlands and Germany. We did support for bands like The Damned Truth, The Brew, Elvana and many more. The biggest one we did was Supporting Skunk Anansie In AFAS live in Amsterdam. We start 2023 by playing a Showcase Festival in The Netherlands in a few weeks. The following summer we will play different festivals and clubshows!
RYR: Is there anything else you’d like to add and what is the best way to keep connected with the band?
TDF: Please follow us on Social Media like Instagram and Facebook. To help us, please add us to your playlist and recommend us to your friends. We would love to come to the US to do some gigs in the near future!
NOW…. Fasten your seatbelts! Til Death Do Us Part, the new single and music video from Dutch rockers The Damned Few, is now available on all digital platforms.
The new track also introduces a new band line up: Dion Legebeke (vocals), Michiel Jansen (guitar), Jeroen Hobert (drums) en Jaap Schrijver (bass). Til Death Do Us Part is a forerunner of the four-piece rock’n’roll formation’s debut album, which will be released later this year. The band melts riff-based rock together with a pinch of blues, a scent of psych, and the powerful vocals of singer Dion Legebeke. The result is a unique sounding band that will remind you of The Pretty Reckless, Rival Sons, Wolfmother, The Who, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath.
