HALO THEORY is a collaboration between HALCYON WAY singer Steve Braun and former 3 MINUTES TO LIVE guitarist Chris Metker. Musically they could be described as Modern Power Metal or perhaps just Progressive Metal too.
Very good quality work on this short album/EP that features 6 total songs with NO fillers, all the tracks are solid and have their own personality while fitting together cohesively. The production is extremely solid too, this rivals any major label release quality-wise.
I mentioned that all the tracks were solid, “Breaking Point” is probably the most “modern” sounding and it would fit on radio nicely. “Devil You Know” is in that vein as well, with a sound that’s a little closer to Disturbed meets Dream Theater. Most of Braun’s singing is on the clean side, but he’s not afraid to add more growls for effect.
My personal favorite was “The Awakening”. It leaned more into the traditional Power Metal style, but with some more modern elements. The other tracks, “My Revelation”, “ReBorn” and the epic lead track “Never The Slave” are strong too.
If these guy keep the momentum going they could become a major player in the Prog/Power scene and possibly even landing themselves in a more mainstream place as they seem to have all the elements to make a run at that as well. HIGHLY recommend this one.
